Currency : is the Real, although the US Dollar and Euro is widely accepted. All credit cards are accepted, the most common being Visa. (Top tip: at night all the banking cash points (ATMs) distribute R$100 max (£25). So either bring cash or be prepared to travel into Fortaleza to find a bank during the day) .
Getting there: Several airlines fly from Europe directly to Fortaleza; TAP Air Portugal via Lisbon; Air Madrid via Madrid; Martin Air via Amsterdam; When you arrive at Fortaleza's new, modern airport you can be transferred directly from the airport to your pousada in Jeri by 4x4 vehicle. The advantage of taking the 4x4 is that you will not need to spend a night in Fortaleza; and it's direct and safe for you and your equipment. The distance is less than 300km with the last 25km over dirt tracks; sand dunes and beaches to reach your exotic destination in style.
Water Safety: The water is in general, very safe for all the family. No shore break exists so the water is easy to enter and exit at all tides. The currents are not a worry, and the waves are small. Lifeguard facilities exist with a high speed, rescue boat always at the ready.
Climate: Sunshine all year round. The rain season starts in February and ends in May/June. Even in the rainy season you are likely to get 4-5 days of sunshine and rain on the other two. Temperatures vary between 22C to 32C. The sea temperature is unusually warm, no wetsuits are required.
What to expect: Portuguese is the local dialect although at times I'm sure they make things up! More and more people are learning and speaking English. Although, it may well be beneficial to learn some Portuguese or Spanish before arriving.
Communications : Fast internet access is available and a wire-less system is planned for the apartments. Pay phones can be found in the street. You can use credit cards to phone home or buy pre-paid cards.
Medical Services: Brazil has excellent medical facilities, but you have to pay for the service. Advisable to carry travel insurance; although the fees are very cheap not like the USA.
